Elements of Zen

Elements of Zen
is a reaction to my reading up on Zen teachings in Summer 2015 and formed part of the November South West Artwork exhibition in Poole Lighthouse entitled ‘What We Did Last Summer’. This particular body of work is a exploration into the Zen notion of enlightenment and seeing things for their true and obvious self, rather than using memory and experience to understand what we are presented with. Through mirroring the image we are offered the idea of completion (enlightenment) however the simplicity of the image is conflicted with the possibility of seeing another image within; a sort of sub-consious ‘Rorshchach’ effect takes place.
The imagery as is consistent in my practice, is a comment on human perception and the need to find meaning in what we see.
